British Watchmaking
A look at how Pinion approaches modern British watchmaking, from design and sourcing to hand assembly and testing in England.
Design and Craftsmanship
Pinion exists to celebrate modern British watchmaking – mechanical watches created with intent, precision and purpose.
Every model is designed, assembled, regulated and tested by founder Piers Berry in England, ensuring a direct connection between design and build. This hands-on approach means each watch carries the maker’s touch from first sketch to final timing test.

Manufacturing
Pinion works closely with a network of specialist manufacturers, primarily in Switzerland and Germany, where key components such as cases, dials and movements are produced to exacting standards.
Some smaller, highly specific parts are also sourced from trusted international suppliers to maintain quality and consistency across every watch.
This global collaboration allows Pinion to combine the best materials and expertise with British design and final assembly, producing watches built to last
Case Finishing
Each steel or bronze case is hand-finished in England, with surfaces brushed, blasted or polished to achieve the desired texture and tone.
For coated finishes, such as black or gunmetal grey stainless steel, Pinion works with a specialist heat-treatment company in Cambridge, ensuring durability and precision in every detail.

Assembly and Testing
All watch assembly, movement regulation and testing are carried out by Piers Berry in England.
Every movement is adjusted to an average accuracy of ±5 seconds per day and tested in three positions: dial up, dial down and crown down – to simulate everyday wear.
This methodical process guarantees that each watch performs reliably before leaving Pinion HQ.
Servicing and Repairs
While day-to-day assembly and simple repairs are handled in-house, Pinion continues to collaborate with Ian Walsh, who has supported the brand since its inception.
Ian provides servicing and repair work for more complex pieces such as chronographs and contributes technical insight at the design and prototyping stages.
His experience as a master watchmaker helps ensure every Pinion watch is structurally sound, practical to service, and engineered for longevity.
