Pure origins
Pure Chance was a hand-wound special edition watch created for British Watchmakers Day 2026.
It was also the first watch to be released from Pinion’s 2026 Pure collection.
Limited to 50 pieces, it reimagined Pinion’s original Pure from 2014 with a completely new 38mm stainless steel case, a high-domed sapphire crystal, and a deep blue aventurine glass dial. Its name references the material itself, first discovered by chance in 17th-century Venice.
Each watch is designed, built and regulated in England by Pinion’s founder, Piers, remaining closely connected from first sketch to final regulation.
Star-lit Depth
The centrepiece of Pure Chance is its aventurine glass dial, chosen for its depth and star-like sparkle.
Aventurine glass has an unusual origin story: it’s said to have been discovered by chance in 17th-century Venice, when copper fragments found their way into molten glass, creating a shimmering, celestial effect.
That same character comes alive here as the dial catches the light, revealing countless points of subtle brilliance. Skeleton hands finished in white gloss lacquer sit lightly above the surface, keeping the focus on texture and legibility.
New Silhouette
Pure Chance introduces a completely new 38mm case design, developed to be slimmer and more refined than Pinion’s other 38mm models.
The proportions are deliberately sleek, with a smaller dial opening that gives the watch a cleaner, more compact presence on the wrist. The case combines brushed surfaces with a polished bezel, edges and case back for a balanced, multi-contrast finish.
Above it sits a high-domed sapphire crystal, chosen for its vintage character and the gentle distortion it creates at the edges of the dial.
Gilt Heart
Inside Pure Chance is the Swiss hand-wound Sellita SW261-1 M movement, finished in gilt with striping and blued screws for warmth and depth.
The movement is visible through a sapphire exhibition case back, bringing the mechanical heart of the watch into view rather than hiding it away.
Printed on the inside of the glass is an illustration by British artist Keisha Karlsen: a skeletal hand that echoes the original Pure’s case back artwork, positioned so its finger points towards the balance wheel. It’s a detail that connects design, mechanics and meaning in a single view.
One Pair of Hands
Pure Chance is designed, assembled, regulated and tested in England by Pinion’s founder, Piers.
From the first design sketches through to final inspection, each movement is adjusted by hand and tested across three positions (dial up, dial down and crown down) to simulate daily wear and ensure consistent performance.
By designing the watch and then building it by hand, the same person remains closely connected to every stage of its creation, from concept to completion. It’s an approach now rare in British watchmaking, and one that ensures the finished watch stays true to its original intent.
